ropefish feeding question?
I bought a rope fish about two months ago, thinking I would return it if it tried to attack any of my smaller fish. It never did, but it also never comes out to eat when I'm feeding my other large and agressive feeding fish that don't let much food fall to the bottom.I feed them in the morning and at night. I've fed them dry and frozen bloodworms and dried tubifex and plankton, and the ropefish just hides under the rocks. I rareley see the it come out, and a few times I left it in a seperate plastic container that I've used to feed my dwarf frogs when they weren't getting enough food, but it only seemed to eat like a couple frozen bloodworms .
My question is, how is this fish still alive and not starved looking after several months(no missing fish or teared fins), and does anyone have any advice about feeding it? Also is it possable that it should be in a tank with smaller less aggressive feeders, which would mean me giving it away, thanks for the help
My dempseys are gluttons too, I experience the same problem. Heres some remedies to the situation I've come up with.
1) fish aren't smart, I mean they're smart, but not smart like us. Feed your aggressive fish from one end of the tank, and when they go nuts for the food, deliver sinking pellets to the other side of the tank, they'll hit the bottom even if your aggressive fish notice it, they wont catch 5 sinking pellets.
2) Use a delivery System. I cant tell you the name of the device, but its similar to a mechanics tool that they use to recover dropped nuts and bolts in an engine. The mechanics version is metal and greased so its no good, but at dollar stores you can find plastic and stainless steel ones used for cooking. They're small claws with a plunger to release and contract the apparatus, you can use this to hand feed a timid species, they're mostely used with ropefish and moray eels. (I wouldnt feed a moray with my hand
would you?)
A photo of the mechanics version can be seen here:

Remember to find an apparatus like this, but designed for kitchen use.
